Violent clashes broke out between two factions in Mewat Nuh, Haryana. The Haryana Police said “the fight started after young men stopped Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad at Khedla Mod in Nuh”. Stones were pelted and cars set on fire during the religious procession. Some of the police cars have sustained damage.
To disperse the gathering, police fired tear gas rounds. The prohibitory orders against public gatherings were enforced throughout the whole district. The Haryana government said that “mobile internet connections will remain suspended until Wednesday in order to reduce intense communal tension”.
ADGP Haryana Police Mamta reported that Nuh was the main affected region. No big incidents have occurred outside Nuh, although an inquiry is ongoing and FIR has been filed. ADGP has appealed to people to come forward with any information that can help them in the investigation.
Five people have died, including two home guards who were shot dead after a clash broke out on Monday. Heavy police have been deployed in Nuh district and nearby areas. Curfew and Section 144 have been implemented in several areas. Section 144 forbids the conduct of processions, demonstrations, or other gatherings of more than four individuals without prior authorization from police authorities. Around 44 FIRs have been registered, and 70 people have been taken into custody.
All educational institutions will remain closed in Sohna, sub-division of Gurugram. In rest of the city all schools, colleges, and workplaces are functioning normally. No restrictions on traffic have been imposed. Meanwhile, many office-goers opted to work from home after their workplaces sent out advisories not to travel. All fuel stations have also been directed not to sell loose petrol and diesel to anyone, except in emergency cases in Gurugram.
People have been urged not to share anything on social media that would offend someone’s religious beliefs. Gurugram District Administration requested that no one should upload any material on social media that can offend religious sensibilities or jeopardize peace in order to avert racial tensions in Nuh district and the surrounding areas.
