Churu Lok Sabha MP Rahul Kaswan announced his decision to join the Congress on Monday, citing the neglect of farmers’ voices in the country as his reason for leaving the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Kaswan formally joined the Congress in Delhi, with party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rajasthan Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra present at the event.
Expressing gratitude to Congress leaders and acknowledging his past tenure with the BJP, Kaswan emphasized the importance of addressing issues facing farmers and other neglected sectors. He also said, ”I would like to thank Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and senior leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Govind Singh Dotasra and others for allowing me to join Congress.”
Welcoming Kaswan into the party fold, Kharge highlighted the significance of Kaswan’s commitment to fighting for the principles shared by the Congress.
Kaswan’s decision to switch parties followed his discontentment over not receiving a BJP ticket for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, as revealed in a statement on social media. Instead of Rahul Kaswan, BJP had decided to field Devendra Jhajharia from the seat, he had previously won gold twice and silver once in the Paralympics. Earlier in the day, he posted on X that he has taken a major decision in public life.
In his statement, Kaswan questioned the reasons behind the denial of a ticket despite his dedication and efforts in serving his constituency, expressing disappointment with the lack of a satisfactory response from party leadership.
