Wayanad Landslides Death Toll Rises To 308

On July 30th, Kerala’s health minister Veena George confirmed that around 308 people lost their lives in Wayanad landslides.

As per Kerala’s health minister, 195 bodies and 113 body parts have been found so far. Currently, rescue & relief operations are ongoing in Chooralmala and Mundakkai in the Meppadi region, where landslides have caused significant damage.

Moreover, the rescue operations led by the Army, NDRF, SDRF, and local authorities, are still in progress at various sites. These operations are focused on promptly evacuating stranded individuals and providing essential services and medical aid.

According to Defence statement, high-earth movement equipment has been transferred to other side. The movement of vehicles is now been managed by the civil administration.

Later, the personnel also conducted a meeting at Wayanad District Collector’s office. As per the officials, the search operation began by relief operation (with dogs) at around 7 am.

On the basis of accessibility & chances of recovering missing people, the affected area has now been split into six areas. The following zones are Punchirimattom region (Zone 1), Mundekkai region (Zone 2), school area (Zone 3), Chooralmala town area ( Zone 4), Village area (Zone 5) and Downstream area ( Zone 6).

Earlier, Indian Army gave the 190-foot Bailey Bridge to civil administration. This bridge was constructed over the Iruvanjippuzha River to link the Chooralmala and Mundakkai regions that were cut off by the landslides.

Role Of Establishment

Meanwhile on Thursday, ex-Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi made a visit to impacted area and there, they interacted with people who were staying at shelter camps. They will stay in Wayanad on friday.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan constituted a high-level meeting in Wayanad to assess the situation. He stated that the primary focus will be on rescue efforts, with rehabilitation to follow as quickly as possible.

As for CMDRF (Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund), it has acquired huge support and via campaign drives, donations continue to come from different places to help the impacted areas. In future, the organizers expect to collect huge amounts through this initiatives.
