Wayanad Landslides: Local Hero Prajeesh Goes Missing After Braving Landslides to Rescue Stranded Villagers in Wayanad

A local hero, Prajeesh, from Chooralmala, has gone missing after his courageous rescue efforts amid devastating landslides in Wayanad. Last week, Prajeesh, known for his unwavering spirit and helpful nature, made multiple perilous trips up the treacherous hill path of Mundakkai to rescue stranded individuals affected by the landslides.

The calamity struck Mundakkai early on July 30, when deadly landslides wreaked havoc, leaving many trapped. Prajeesh, driving his jeep, undertook the daunting task of evacuating stranded people from the high-range area. On two separate occasions, he braved the dangerous terrain and treacherous conditions to save lives. His selfless acts earned him the admiration of the local community.

Just as Prajeesh was preparing to relocate to a safer area with his family, he received a distressing call for a third rescue mission. Despite the risks, he set out once more, determined to assist more individuals in need. Unfortunately, this time, his jeep was found damaged at Chooralmala, and Prajeesh has not been seen since.

The heartbreaking news has deeply affected the residents of Chooralmala, who now fondly remember Prajeesh as their “superhero.” Known for his readiness to help others in times of need, Prajeesh had already gained a reputation for his community service, from weddings to funerals, always present and willing to lend a hand.

One villager recounted, “After the first series of landslides, Prajeesh made two risky trips up the hill and successfully rescued many people. Just as he was about to move his family to safety, he received another urgent call. He decided to go back up the hill to help more people, but he never returned.”

Another villager shared that Prajeesh was an integral part of the village’s social fabric. “He was always there for every important event, be it joyous or somber. He was incredibly supportive, especially during my daughter’s wedding.”

Friends of Prajeesh revealed that they had advised him against making the third trip, concerned for his safety. Prajeesh, however, was determined to assist those still trapped. “Prajeesh was truly our hero,” said an emotional friend. “But now we fear the worst.”
