The Delhi High Court ordered the jail authorities to file an affidavit within two days explaining why Gurupada Maji’s MRI was not performed despite the court’s order.
Maji’s request for bail on medical grounds is being heard by the High Court. He is one of the defendants in the West Bengal coal mining money laundering case. Justice Jasmeet Singh ordered the jail authorities to file an affidavit explaining why the court’s order for MRI was not followed.
On March 3, the High Court directed the jail authorities to ensure that the MRI Cervical Spine and Rheumatology is completed before the next date of hearing and that the report, as well as the opinion of a Neuro specialist on the MRI Cervical Spine and Rheumatology, is placed on record.
After hearing senior counsel N Hariharan’s submission that the petitioner’s MRI had not been performed, the high court sought an explanation.
The bench questioned the State’s counsel about why the MRI was not performed.
The bench also considered the medical report, which stated that all other tests had been completed except the MRI.
The case has been scheduled for a hearing on March 17th.
Earlier, the High Court had directed to file a comprehensive medical report on the health condition of Gurupada Maji.
Previously, on January 13, the Safdarjung hospital’s medical board filed a preliminary medical report in the case.
Sumer Singh Boparai, counsel for the petitioner, objected to the stand and stated, “It is not about the MRI. Petition has other problems also. A medical report on all his ailments be called. His bail is pending for last two months and health condition is deteriorating.”
On December 21, 2022, the High Court directed the Director of Safdarjung Hospital to form a medical board and examine Gurupada Maji.
