Weather: IMD Issues Orange Alert for Multiple States as Rainfall Continues Across India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continued rainfall across various parts of the country in the coming days, prompting an orange alert for several states. On Sunday, states including Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, and Kerala are expected to experience significant rain.

In Delhi-NCR, the Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for today. The city is likely to see a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms. This pattern of wet weather is expected to continue through Friday.

Northwest India:

The IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy showers, in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and East Uttar Pradesh until August 16. Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh will also experience rain, with heavy showers expected on August 11 and from August 14 to 16.

IMD scientist Soma Sen noted, “We are anticipating rainfall across North and Central India, with particularly heavy rainfall expected over East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh. Up to 20 cm of rain is possible in these areas.”

West & Central India:

For August 11, light to moderate rain, with isolated heavy showers, is predicted for Madhya Pradesh, Goa, and Maharashtra.

East & Northeast India:

The IMD’s press release for August 10 mentions widespread light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy rain likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until August 16.

South Peninsular India:

Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain, with isolated heavy rainfall, is expected in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mahe until August 14. Rayalaseema will see similar weather on August 14 and 15. The IMD also warned of isolated very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mahe between August 11 and 13.
