What Happened At Delhi Coaching Centre Tragedy? Official’s Investigation Report Reveals

Delhi chief secretary Naresh Kumar submitted an inquiry report to city minister Atishi on Tuesday regarding the deaths of three civil service aspirants at Rau’s IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi.

In the report, the chief secretary pointed out several issues with the coaching institute, including a blocked drainage system and a lack of proper security staff oversight.

Here is what the probe says:

  1. According to the report, Rau’s IAS Study Circle completely blocked the drainage system and did not take extra precautions for such emergencies.
  2. “The parking access to the institute is directly exposed to the road, so during heavy rain, water flows into the parking area instead of the stormwater drain.”
  3. “There was no monitoring by the security staff, which allowed water to flow into the basement, ultimately causing the deaths of three students,” the report added.
  4. The chief secretary’s report noted that the road from Shankar Road to Pusa Road is shaped like a saucer, with the lowest point in front of Rau’s Coaching Institute.

“During heavy rains, water collects in this 200-foot stretch, and passing vehicles cause splashes that worsen the situation,” the report added.

  1. The report explains that water accumulates in this area due to the road’s shape during heavy rain. “Water that should flow into the stormwater drain instead floods the parking area,” the report added.
  2. The property owners have covered the existing drainage system with granite, marble, and kota stones. “Manholes over the drainage system have also been covered, leaving no way to clean the drains,” the report added.

The Center has formed a panel to investigate the deaths of Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Nevin Dalwin, who drowned in the basement of the flooded coaching center in Old Rajinder Nagar.
