During a rally in Tamil Nadu’s Salem, on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi became emotional as he remembered BJP state general secretary ‘auditor’ V Ramesh, who was reportedly murdered in Salem in 2013.
In his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted V Ramesh’s tireless dedication to the party. “Today, as I stand in Salem, I recall Auditor Ramesh… Today, Salem has lost its Ramesh. Ramesh worked tirelessly for the party. He was a committed leader and an excellent orator who worked diligently,” PM Modi expressed, paying homage to the late leader.
V Ramesh, aged 54, served as the BJP state general secretary and was tragically murdered by an unknown group within his residence compound in Maravaneri area, Salem, in 2013.
– V Ramesh, an auditor by profession, served as the state general secretary of the BJP in Salem.
– On July 19, 2013, the 52-year-old BJP leader was brutally attacked near his home by unknown assailants wielding sharp-edged weapons.
– The attack occurred as Ramesh was returning home from his office, where he had been discussing party matters around 9 pm.
– Then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi personally called to inquire about the tragic incident.
– The murder of V Ramesh led to heightened tensions in the region, resulting in protests that included stoning government buses and necessitating school closures.
– In October 2013, media outlets reported on Narendra Modi’s rally in Tiruchi, where he notably refrained from praising then Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa.
– This omission was attributed to Modi’s dissatisfaction with the state government’s perceived lack of progress in investigating Auditor Ramesh’s murder.
– Prime Minister Modi also honored the late Lakshmanan, acknowledging his significant contributions to the BJP’s growth in Tamil Nadu.
– He praised Lakshmanan’s role in the anti-emergency movement and highlighted his involvement in various socio-cultural activities, as well as his establishment of several schools in the state.
