Border Security Force (BSF) has achieved a significant milestone with the induction of Sub-Inspector Suman Kumari as its first woman sniper. After completing an intensive eight-week sniper course at the Central School of Weapons and Tactics (CSWT) in Indore, Suman attained the prestigious ‘instructor grade’.
BSF took to X (formerly Twitter) to extend a warm welcome to the pioneering ‘Mahila Sniper’. In their post, the BSF celebrated the spirit of inclusivity within the force, stating, “BSF is truly becoming an inclusive Force where #ladies are taking rapid strides everywhere. In a step in this direction, after rigorous training, #BSF has got the First #Mahila Sniper.”
Originally from Himachal Pradesh, Suman, who was leading a platoon in Punjab, chose to enroll in the sniper course after recognizing the danger posed by sniper attacks from neighboring borders. Motivated by a desire to retaliate, Suman sought approval from her superiors to undertake the course.
During the sniper course, Suman stood out as the sole female participant among a cohort of 56 men. This course is renowned for its rigorous nature, often compared to the demanding commando training within the force.
Hailing from a modest background in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, the BSF’s inaugural woman sniper comes from a humble family. Her father is employed as an electrician, while her mother manages the household.
Suman’s journey with the BSF commenced in 2021, and she has also acquired proficiency in unarmed combat.
