The Wildlife Department intervened to rescue a female leopard after it entered the village of Ramnagar in Jammu and Kashmir, injuring two individuals.
The incident caused alarm in Peri village, located in the Ramnagar tehsil in Udhampur district, following an attack by a leopard on two senior citizens working in their fields.
Upon receiving the news, a team from the Wildlife Control Room in Tandey Udhampur, led by Block Officer Babu Ram, promptly arrived at the scene and successfully captured the leopard.
“On Monday around 12-1 pm, we received information that a leopard had attacked two people in Ramnagar. Our team reached the spot and rescued a leopard,” Block Officer reported to ANI on the same day.
The captured leopard, estimated to be four years old, was taken to the Veterinary Centre in Kallar Udhampur to receive initial treatment, including necessary antidotes. Subsequently, the plan was to move her to the Manda Jammu Veterinary Centre for continued care until she could be revived.
“We brought the leopard to the veterinary centre in Udhampur and gave first aid. Leopard is being to Jammu now,” he further stated.
This follows a similar rescue operation by the wildlife department on February 28, involving a female leopard in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir.
