Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, a remarkable athlete who has achieved Olympic and World Championships gold medals, has been nominated for the prestigious Men’s World Athlete of the Year award at the upcoming World Athletics Awards 2023. The announcement was made by World Athletics, the global governing body of the sport, stating that Neeraj’s outstanding performance across various major sporting events has earned him this recognition.
A statement released by the body said “This week marks the opening of the voting process for the 2023 World Athletes of the Year ahead of the World Athletics Awards 2023. World Athletics is pleased to confirm a list of 11 nominees for Men’s World Athlete of the Year. These athletes were selected by an international panel of athletics experts, comprising representatives from all six continental areas of World Athletics.”
The selection of the nominees, including Neeraj Chopra, was made by an international panel of athletics experts from different regions, considering their exceptional achievements in events like the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, one-day meeting circuits, Label road races, and other global competitions. Neeraj’s name appeared alongside other prominent athletes, each recognized for their extraordinary contributions to the sport during the year.
To determine the finalists, a three-way voting process will be conducted, with the World Athletics Council, the World Athletics Family, and the public participating through social media platforms. The voting will conclude on October 28, and the winners will be announced on December 11 via the World Athletics social media channels.
Neeraj’s recent triumphs include winning gold at the Asian Games and the World Athletics Championships, where he demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication. His stellar performance has brought immense pride to India, as he has consistently dominated the field with his exceptional throws, setting new records and securing top honors across multiple prestigious events.
