Worli Hit-and-Run: Mihir Shah’s Tests Negative For Alcohol, But Evidence Against Him Remains Strong

Mihir Shah, the 23-year-old accused in the Worli hit-and-run case, has tested negative for alcohol in his blood and urine samples, according to police sources. The results were anticipated due to the timing of the incident and Shah’s subsequent arrest. The accident occurred in the early hours of July 7, and Shah was apprehended on July 9.

The investigating officer from the Worli police station noted, “Given the timeline, negative alcohol results were expected. However, we have substantial evidence against Shah. He confessed to being intoxicated in a recorded statement and we have video evidence of this confession. Additionally, statements from the bar owner in Juhu, where Shah consumed liquor, and the bar in Malad, where he picked up beer, support our case.”

Shah, who fled the scene of the accident, has also been captured on CCTV footage at the Juhu bar with friends. He is currently in judicial custody.

The hit-and-run involved Shah’s BMW crashing into a scooter ridden by Pradeep Nakhwa, 50, and his wife Kaveri, 45. While Pradeep sustained minor injuries, Kaveri was tragically dragged for nearly 2.5 kilometers and was run over again by Shah’s driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, as he reversed the vehicle.

Although Shah initially denied drinking, he later admitted to consuming large amounts of alcohol in two separate sessions before the crash.

Shah’s father, Rajesh Shah, a leader in the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, was also arrested but has since been granted bail.

The police have charged Mihir Shah with several offenses under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS), including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, endangering life, causing the disappearance of evidence, and destruction of property. Relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act have also been applied.
