‘Ye Girne Wali Sarkaar Hai’: Akhilesh Yadav On Agnipath Scheme In Debate Budget 2024

Akhilesh Yadav recently voiced his concerns about the challenges faced by ordinary families in dealing with rising prices, education expenses, and medical costs. He questioned the ruling party’s claims of progress, particularly highlighting India’s standing in the Hunger Index.

Yadav criticized the BJP’s “Make in India” initiative, noting that despite Uttar Pradesh sending the most members to the Lok Sabha, the state has not received any major projects, IITs, IIMs, or new AIIMS hospitals. He emphasized that the promises of privatization leading to job creation have not materialized, with job opportunities actually decreasing.

Reflecting on the past decade, Yadav questioned the efficacy of the government’s basic developmental efforts. He pointed out that even the Prime Minister failed to meet ambitious targets, resulting in disappointing electoral outcomes. He remarked, “Jab wo jhoot bol raha tha, bade salike se mai aitwaar na karta to aur kya karta.”

Yadav also credited the establishment of Noida’s electronic policy to the Samajwadi Party’s tenure, challenging the BJP’s claims of progress under “Make in India.” He expressed skepticism towards the government’s narrative, questioning the allocation of budget funds, particularly why projects like the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh were neglected.

He brought attention to unfulfilled promises from previous budgets, particularly regarding agricultural infrastructure. Yadav urged the government to show tangible results, such as the construction of new mandis for farmers who are struggling and even committing suicide.

Addressing the controversial Agniveer scheme, Yadav asserted that the youth preparing for military service would never accept such a proposal. He accused the government of coercing state administrations into providing quotas for Agniveer recruits, indicating a lack of confidence in the scheme’s viability.

In a sharp exchange, Yadav responded to Anurag Thakur’s defense of the Agniveer scheme, which claimed to guarantee 100% employment.

Yadav quipped, “Ye mantri nahi rahe issliye takleef pareshaani zada h. Jab se UP se hare h koi inko namaskaar nahi kar raha h, takleef iss baat ki h.

Yadav concluded with a warning about the current government’s stability, likening it to a government on the brink of collapse. He emphasized the enduring symbolism of the cycle, the election symbol of his party, predicting that once the cycle is removed, the ruling party’s support will vanish. He ended with a poignant shayari:

“Buniyad ko nakaar kar jo imaarte utahyenge, hum bhi dekhte h ki wok is manjil tak jayenge.”
