Donald Trump Inauguration: Key Attendees

Following Trump, Vance, and their families, the most prominent guests will include President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, along with their spouses, Jill Biden and Doug Emhoff. Despite the political tensions, Biden and Harris will attend the event in a formal capacity.

While former presidents and first ladies are traditionally invited, former First Lady Michelle Obama has opted out of this year’s inauguration, according to her office.

Other influential figures and global leaders have confirmed their attendance, adding further weight to the event.

The Capitol grapples with Trump's last-minute inauguration switch

Donald Trump’s second inauguration will be an unprecedented affair, with the ceremony moved indoors to the Capitol Rotunda due to cold weather, marking a rare shift not seen since Ronald Reagan's 1985 inauguration. The decision, made by Trump’s team, leaves fewer than 2,000 attendees—primarily lawmakers, high-ranking officials, and Trump’s family—able to witness the event in person, disappointing many ticketed supporters and constituents. Preparations for the indoor ceremony, announced just 72 hours prior, are underway, highlighting the logistical scramble required to adapt to this significant pivot. Security remains heightened following past threats, while the tightly controlled setting ensures reduced risks. The move draws comparisons to historical precedents, including Reagan’s indoor inauguration and William Henry Harrison’s ill-fated outdoor ceremony in 1841, underscoring the intersection of tradition, weather, and safety in presidential inaugurations.
