Protesting farmers have suspended their march to Delhi for the day following injuries caused by tear gas shelling by Haryana police at the Punjab-Haryana border.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher reported at least eight injured protesters, with one requiring urgent care at Chandigarh’s PGIMER.
Farmers detained in Gautam Buddha Nagar District Jail have started a hunger strike to demand justice, according to the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM).
The SKM stated that the imprisoned Greater Noida farmers seek long-pending resolutions, including a law for 10% land allotment, addressing the Leaseback (Adadi) settlement, and implementing the 2013 Land Acquisition Act.
“These farmers were peacefully protesting when forcibly detained by authorities. Their hunger strike, though peaceful, endangers their health,” SKM added.
The group urged the administration and governments to prioritize the farmers’ demands. - PTI
