AAP Points To Mismanagement As The Cause Of Maha Kumbh Chaos, Demands End To VIP Culture

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has attributed the stampede at the Maha Kumbh to administrative mismanagement and called for an end to VIP culture, urging for better crowd management. AAP leader Sanjay Singh described the incident as "heart-wrenching," recalling a video where a woman was seen desperately trying to save her family member by administering mouth-to-mouth oxygen. Singh also mentioned that Mahamandaleshwar Premanand Puri Ji had requested the authorities to hand over the event's management to the army, but his appeal was rejected. “We never intended to comment on this, but the truth is clear—VIP culture is the main cause. Roads were being closed for VIP movements, which disrupted the devotees,” Singh stated. He further criticized the administration for only arriving at the scene at 1 a.m. and pushing people to take the holy dip, which sparked panic and led to the stampede. Singh expressed his heartfelt sympathy for the affected individuals and urged the Chief Minister to immediately halt all VIP movements at the Maha Kumbh. Both AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi CM Atishi also extended their condolences.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated, 'The situation in Prayagraj is under control...'

"Today, around 8-10 crore devotees are present in Prayagraj. The heavy flow of devotees towards the Sangam Nose is putting continuous pressure on the area. Some devotees have suffered serious injuries while attempting to cross barricades on Akhara Marg, and they have been promptly transferred to hospitals for treatment. Since the Mauni Amavasya auspicious period began last night, the influx of devotees has been immense. The Prime Minister has assessed the situation four times so far, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Governor Anandiben Patel are also regularly receiving updates. Although the situation is under control, the crowd size remains very large. Saints from various Akharas have respectfully suggested that devotees take their holy dip first, and once the crowds reduce, the Akharas will proceed with their dips. There are large crowds at Sangam Nose, Nag Vasuki Marg, and Sangam Marg. I urge devotees not to be swayed by rumors. The ghats across the Kumbh area have been made available, and there is no need to move specifically towards Sangam Nose. Devotees should take their holy dip at the nearest available ghat. We are ensuring proper medical care for the injured, and the Railways have arranged special trains from various Prayagraj stations to help devotees return to their destinations."
