New Delhi Railway Stampede News LIVE: At least 18 people were killed, and 15 others were injured in a stampede-like situation at New Delhi Railway Station due to a huge rush on Saturday night. The incident occurred around 10 pm, prompting an emergency response.
“18 people, including 14 women, lost their lives in the stampede that occurred yesterday around 10 PM at New Delhi Railway station,” said Delhi Police.
What triggered the NDLS stampede?
News agency ANI reported, quoting police officials, that the stampede was triggered by a sudden surge in the crowd of passengers waiting to board trains to Prayagraj at New Delhi Railway Station. Platforms 14 and 15 saw a significant increase in passengers, as many people rushed to the station in large numbers to travel to the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. The overwhelming crowd led to chaos, ultimately resulting in the tragic stampede.
Meanwhile, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has ordered a high-level investigation and said that the situation at New Delhi station was under control.
