ABVP’s Torch March Draws Over 1500 Students in JNU Ahead of Student Union Polls

On Tuesday night, more than 1500 students gathered at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to join the Mashaal Juloos organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The event, part of the campaign leading up to the university’s student union polls, saw enthusiastic participation from students across various departments.

Starting from Ganga Dhaba and culminating at the Chandrabhaga hostel, the torch march resonated with chants of patriotism including “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram.” Led by ABVP’s presidential candidate Umesh Chandra Ajmira, vice president candidate Deepika Sharma, secretary candidate Arjun Anand, and joint secretary candidate Govind Dangi, the event showcased a strong display of unity and fervor.

Vikas Patel, the Secretary of ABVP JNU Unit, expressed confidence in their campaign’s momentum, stating, “The overwhelming participation in the Mashaal Juloos signifies a clear message that leftists are losing ground in JNU, and ABVP is poised to make significant strides in the upcoming Student Union elections.”

ABVP has officially announced its candidates for the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary positions for the JNU Students Union elections, scheduled to take place soon. Additionally, the organization has unveiled its candidates for 42 counselor positions, spread across 16 schools and multiple combined centers.

The anticipation for the elections is palpable, with presidential debates slated for March 20 and the elections scheduled for March 22. As ABVP gears up with its robust campaign and widespread support, the outcome of the polls holds significant implications for the ideological landscape within JNU.
