Amit Shah to Chair High-Level Security Review Meeting on J-K

In a proactive move, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to lead a crucial security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in the national capital on Tuesday. The meeting, scheduled for the afternoon, will delve into key aspects such as the law and order situation, the security grid, and the implementation of the zero terror plan, according to reliable sources.

During the session, the Home Minister will scrutinize the functionality of the security grid and various facets related to both security and development initiatives in the Union Territory. Specific areas of focus include the area domination plan, the zero terror plan, the prevailing law and order situation, cases linked to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and other security-related matters.

Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, and Director General of Police RR Swain are expected to attend the meeting. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, Director Generals of Police of the Central Reserve Police Force and the Border Security Force, along with relevant officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Jammu and Kashmir, will also be in attendance.

The discussion is anticipated to encompass an evaluation of the New Central Sector Scheme for Industrial Development of Jammu and Kashmir, which was initiated in 2021 with an outlay of Rs 28,400 crore to boost industrial growth. The Home Minister may also review the progress of development projects in the Union Territory.

Recent data reveals a positive trend in the industrial sector, with an investment of Rs 2,153.45 crore in 2022-23 and Rs 2,326.65 crore up to November 2023 in the fiscal year 2023-24.

This meeting follows a similar high-level review chaired by Amit Shah on January 13 last year, where he emphasized a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism. The Home Minister asserted that all security agencies were engaged in a decisive battle against terrorism. Strengthening the 360-degree security mechanism to eradicate support and information systems for terrorists was also underscored.

In a subsequent review meeting on April 13 last year, the Minister reiterated his commitment to ensuring the security of the Union Territory. The continued attention to these security and developmental aspects reflects the government’s unwavering dedication to the well-being and progress of Jammu and Kashmir.
