Assam Govt Approves Rs 3,000 Cr For High-Speed Economic Corridor & Other Projects

During its weekly cabinet meeting, the Assam government granted approval for the construction of a 1000-km “High-Speed Economic Corridor” road project, with an estimated cost of Rs 3,000 crore. Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, who announced the decisions made during the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday, revealed that this proposed high-speed economic corridor would be a part of the ‘Asom Mala’ project.

Additionally, the state cabinet sanctioned the construction of a Judicial Guest House in Kaziranga, allocating a specific piece of land for the purpose. Baruah explained that the proposed guest house, located in the Kaziranga National Park area, would play a significant role in boosting tourism and providing high-quality accommodation to state guests and visitors of the Gauhati High Court.

The cabinet also approved the completion of a new office building for the Commissioner of Taxes, including additional works with an estimated cost of Rs 11.91 crore. Furthermore, re-validation of administrative approval was granted for Rs 100.61 crore, valid until March 31, 2024.

Other decisions included allocating funds for the Sipajhar Municipal Board, addressing the Eco Sensitive Zone of Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary, and raising a loan of up to Rs 950.43 crore from NABARD for expediting the upgrading of 90 rural roads and 4 rural bridges under PWD (Roads).

The cabinet also approved the scheduling of future cabinet meetings in district headquarters, with meetings planned in Tinsukia for November, North Lakhimpur for December, and Nagaon for January.
