Assam Truck Crash: 5 Devotees Killed, 1 Injured In Kokrajhar

At least five devotees were killed and one seriously injured when a truck crashed into a group of people in front of a temple in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Monday morning.

The incident occurred in front of the Mahamaya Temple in the Kachugaon area of Kokrajhar district. The truck, traveling at high speed, collided with devotees who were participating in the Bol Bom yatra during the Sawan month. These devotees had gathered at the temple to offer Jal Abhishekam, a ritual involving the pouring of sacred water on the deity.

Pushpraj Singh, Superintendent of Police for Kokrajhar district, confirmed the tragic news to ANI. “Five people have died after the truck hit them in front of the Mahamaya Temple in the Kachugaon area. One additional person was injured and has been transported to the hospital for urgent medical treatment,” Singh said.

Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, and local residents assisted in the rescue efforts. The police are working to determine if there were any mechanical failures or other factors that contributed to the accident. The tragic event has cast a somber shadow over the Bol Bom yatra celebrations in the area.

The local community is in shock, and the police have increased patrols and safety measures around religious gatherings to prevent such incidents in the future.
