BJP’s N Rao Condemns Attacks On Hindus And Temples In Bangladesh

BJP leader N Ramchander Rao condemned attacks on Hindus and Hindu temples in Bangladesh on Wednesday, urging the Indian government to assist.

“No doubt, it is their internal matter and has its own repercussions for their country. But the attacks on Hindus and Hindu temples are condemnable. It has to be condemned when Hindus are being persecuted in a non-Hindu country like Bangladesh and Pakistan,” Rao told ANI.

The BJP leader described the attacks as “nothing but purely religious persecution by some elements” in Bangladesh. He recalled the friendly relations between the two countries.

“But despite this, some forces are attacking Hindus and Hindu temples. All sorts of help should be provided by India. It is a matter where humanity has to be respected,” he added.

Bangladesh is facing a fluid political situation, with Sheikh Hasina tendering her resignation on August 5 amid mounting protests. The protests, led mainly by students demanding an end to the quota system for government jobs, have turned into anti-government demonstrations.

A day after Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister of Bangladesh and left the country, President Mohammed Shahabuddin announced the dissolution of the country’s parliament to make way for the formation of an interim administration, Dhaka Tribune reported.

Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been appointed as the head of Bangladesh’s interim government, Dhaka Tribune reported. Bangladesh President’s Press Secretary, Joynal Abedin, made the announcement.

The decision regarding the appointment of Bangladesh’s interim government head was made during a meeting between President Shahabuddin and the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
