A Delhi Court rejected a complaint filed against the director of the film ‘Adipurush’ on Saturday, observing that the petitioner seeks to drop the claim. Raj Gaurav, a lawyer, filed a motion to halt the release of the historical drama starring Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, and Kriti Senon. After noting the petitioner’s response, additional senior civil judge Abhishek Kumar dismissed the suit as withdrawn on Saturday.
Attorney Raj Gaurav requested that he be permitted to withdraw the action since the film’s release date has been pushed back and he has learned that the creators want to make changes to the picture.
“In view of the statement, the present suit is dismissed as withdrawn,” the court ordered.
On the last date of the hearing, the court asked lawyer Raj Gaurav, “Once a CBFC certificate has already been granted to the movie without objection, can you approach this court with a suit like the present one?”
Lawyer Raj Gaurav requested and was allowed time to lead arguments on the court’s posed question. The court was hearing arguments on the suit’s maintainability in the subject. In an earlier session, the court permitted Bhushan Kumar, the producer of ‘Adipurush,’ to argue the viability of a motion seeking a stay of execution on the film’s distribution.
The senior advocate representing the filmmaker argued that the CBFC certificate was granted to the film in September 2022 after the examining committee of the Board examined the content, and thus the makers have every right to show it to the public in cinema halls unless asked to withdraw it by the superior authority.
According to the complaint, Lord Rama and Hanuman are shown in an unjustified and erroneous manner while wearing leather straps. It is also said that Ravana was shown incorrectly. It has been claimed that the figures of Lord Rama, Hanuman, and Ravana in the movie teaser have been shown in a way that offends the applicant’s and others’ religious sensibilities.
It has been alleged that the defendants have offended the plaintiff’s and many other Hindus’ religious, cultural, historical, and civilizational emotions by presenting Lord Rama and Hanuman in an unjustified and erroneous manner in the teaser/promo trailer for their upcoming film Adipurush.
The producer’s YouTube channel shows Lord Rama as a furious man on a murdering spree, according to the petition, and Lord Hanuman and Lord Rama are both portrayed sporting leather accouterments in a preview.
The petition also referenced Raja Ravi Verma and the Ramayan television series, which portrayed Ramayana characters positively. In Hindu mythology, Lord Rama is depicted as a peaceful, noble, and tranquil character, yet the defendant has attempted to portray Lord Rama as an aggressive combatant.
“The picture of Lord Rama has been portrayed in the Constitution of India where he is shown as calm and composed,” the plea stated.
The petitioner requested a permanent injunction on the film’s trailer/promo. He also requested that the caravan be removed from all social media platforms, including YouTube and Facebook.
