Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishan Presents Bill For Granting Official Status To Bhojpuri Language

Gorakhpur BJP MP and Actor Ravi Kishan has recently presented a private member bill in Lok Sabha (Parliament’s lower house) to introduce the Bhojpuri language in the eighth schedule of the constitution. Hence, asking for the official status of the language.

While introducing the Constitution Bill, 2024 in Parliament on Friday, he emphasized that the Bhojpuri language isn’t about vulgar songs.  The language in its own right enjoys a rich cultural history and literature, that needs to be promoted.

Talking to PTI, the BJP MP said ‘So many people speak and understand this language. It is our mother tongue. I wanted to promote this language as a film industry is also being run in this language and lakhs are getting employment. The music industry is also very big.’

While talking about the bill, he also said that this bill is about the promotion of Bhojpuri literature. Moreover, he also said ‘People will take the language seriously. The language is not about crass songs. The language is so rich, it also has literature.’

By making Bhojpuri literature popular the actor also said  ‘I want to pay back to my community. This language is my identity.’

Meanwhile in Lok Sabha 2024, Actor cum politician Ravi Kishan won the UP’s Gorakhpur constituency on BJP’s ticket. In a fierce contest, he defeated Samajwadi party’s candidate Kajal Nishad with a margin of 1,03,526 votes.
