BJP politician Gulab Chand Kataria became Punjab’s new governor and union territory Chandigarh’s administrator on Wednesday.
At Raj Bhavan, the oath was administered by Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court Sheel Nagu at a ceremony.
Earlier, Kataria served as a governor of the northeastern state of Assam. He has now replaced Punjab’s old governor Banwarilal Purohit, who held this post for three years till he gave his resignation from the post in February.

Later on July 27, President Droupadi Murmu accepted his resignation.
This oath-taking ceremony was attended by Haryana governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Ex- Governor VP Singh Badnore, and state ministers like Harpal Singh Cheema & Gurmeet Singh Khudian.

Portfolios Held By Gulab Chand Kataria?
Veteran Leader Gulab Chand Kataria was earlier a Rajasthan’s home minister. He held the post twice-one from 2004-08 and another in 2015-18.
Besides, he was also an eight-time MLA. Under Vasundhara Raje government, He was a minister of education, public works panchayati raj, rural development and disaster management.
Later in February 2023, he became governor of northeastern state of India Assam.
