The Jamnagar airport has been granted international status for a limited duration of 10 days to accommodate the high-profile guests attending the pre-wedding celebration of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant. Notable attendees include Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Rihanna, Ivanka Trump, and several former Prime Ministers.
The airport will welcome international flights from February 25 to March 5, with the establishment of a Custom, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) facility facilitated by the Union government’s Ministries of Health, Finance, and Home Affairs. Additionally, special arrangements have been made by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) to ensure the smooth operation of the event, including access to the IAF’s sensitive “technical” area.
The airport expects a significant increase in aircraft movements during this period, with up to 140 arrivals and departures anticipated compared to the usual six movements.
The mentioned individuals, including Qatar Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Saudi Aramco’s chairperson Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Disney CEO Bob Iger, BlackRock chairman Larry Fink, Ivanka Trump, Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, and former Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper, are expected guests at the event.
Indian celebrities such as Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shah Rukh Khan, M.S. Dhoni, and Sania Nehwal are also on the list. To accommodate the influx of visitors, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has expanded its passenger building from 475 sq.m to 900 sq.m, enabling it to handle nearly 360 passengers during peak hours, compared to the previous capacity of 180.
Informing that the toilets at the airport have been renovated and paintings installed too.
