Operation in Basantgarh, Udhampur, continues as security forces engage in an ongoing encounter with terrorists that began late last night.
An encounter erupted between terrorists and security forces in the elevated areas of Basantgarh, Udhampur district, on Sunday evening, according to officials. The operation commenced after a joint team of forces initiated a cordon and search operation in the region.
Officials reported that contact was made with the terrorists as the forces intensified their search efforts in the higher reaches. The operation is ongoing, and it is believed that three to four terrorists may be trapped in the area.

Earlier, IGP Kashmir Zone VK Birdi reported that security forces had received intelligence about the movement of terrorists in the upper reaches of the region. “A search operation was underway in the Gagar-Mandu area when security forces detected terrorist movement, leading to an exchange of fire,” IGP Birdi told reporters.
On August 11, an encounter erupted between terrorists and security forces in the higher reaches of Basantgarh, Udhampur district, officials confirmed. “Following specific intelligence regarding terrorist presence, a joint search operation was conducted by security forces in Basantgarh under the jurisdiction of P/S Basantgarh. An exchange of fire occurred, and the area has been cordoned off,” the Jammu and Kashmir administration stated.
Additionally, another confrontation took place during a joint operation by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF in Kokernag, Anantnag. During this operation, Havildar Dipak Kumar Yadav and Lance Naik Praveen Sharma sacrificed their lives. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and all members of the Indian Army paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, who were honored for their bravery during the encounter on Saturday.
