Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: Suspect Used Prescription To Harass Another Woman

Sanjay Roy, the man recently arrested for the rape and murder of a woman postgraduate trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, has been linked to prior harassment incidents. According to a report by News18 Bangla, Roy allegedly harassed a homemaker after obtaining her phone number from a doctor’s prescription, raising further questions about his predatory behavior.

The disturbing details began to surface around three months ago when the homemaker took her son to RG Kar Hospital for treatment. During this visit, she encountered Roy, who assisted her in purchasing medicines. Under the guise of helping her, Roy reportedly obtained her phone number from the doctor’s prescription.

What followed was a pattern of harassment. Roy allegedly made persistent and unwelcome calls to the woman, pressuring her to meet him in person. The harassment reportedly escalated to the point where the woman felt threatened. The Kolkata police, investigating Roy’s activities, uncovered the woman’s number in his call records (CDR). She has since been summoned to Lalbazar, the Kolkata Police headquarters, for further questioning.

Roy’s history reveals a troubled personal life, including multiple failed marriages. His role as a civic volunteer in the police welfare board provided him with easy access to various departments within the hospital. Civic volunteers, often contracted to assist the police with duties like traffic management and disaster response, are paid modestly, around Rs 12,000 per month. However, Roy allegedly exploited his position, becoming involved in a racket within the hospital that charged patients’ relatives for securing hospital admissions or beds in nearby nursing homes when government facilities were unavailable.

The investigation into Roy’s activities has unearthed additional troubling evidence, including pornographic content found on his mobile phone. These findings have only intensified the scrutiny surrounding his role in the tragic death of the young doctor.

The RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case has sent shockwaves across the nation. The semi-nude body of the woman, a second-year postgraduate trainee doctor in the chest medicine department, was discovered in the hospital’s seminar hall on Friday. She had been on duty the previous night, and her body bore multiple injury marks, indicative of a brutal assault. The preliminary autopsy report suggested sexual abuse before her death, leading the victim’s father to allege that his daughter was raped and murdered within the hospital premises.

Roy’s arrest came after investigators found his behavior suspicious. CCTV footage captured him entering and exiting the seminar hall where the crime occurred. During interrogation, Roy reportedly confessed to the heinous crime, a revelation that has only deepened the sense of horror surrounding this case.
