Bharat Rastra Samiti (BRS) leaders conducted protests across Telangana following the arrest of party legislator K Kavitha by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an alleged money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy.
The protests took place at various locations, including Siddhipet’s old bus stand, where the leaders gathered. However, the police intervened and detained the protestors. In Hyderabad, local BRS MLAs Rajashekar Reddy and Laxma Reddy, along with their supporters, staged protests at Uppal Radhika X Roads and Malkajgiri X Roads. During the demonstrations, the BRS leaders chanted slogans criticizing the Enforcement Directorate and Prime Minister Modi, expressing their discontent with Kavitha’s arrest.
Simultaneously, K Kavitha, who was arrested from her residence in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills, was presented before the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi. The Member of Legislative Council (MLC) and daughter of BRS founder and former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao faced a day-long interrogation and a raid at her residence preceding her arrest.
Speaking to reporters at the court, Kavitha denounced her arrest as illegal. This development comes after the Enforcement Directorate issued a summons to the 45-year-old BRS leader nearly two months ago. She had been questioned multiple times in the past year regarding the case, with the central agency recording her statements under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The arrest order issued by the ED investigation officer cited violations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, leading to Kavitha’s arrest. The officer detailed the grounds for the arrest, including specific provisions of the act and the timeline of the arrest process.
