Major Aministrative Changes Announced by Rashtrapati Bhavan

The Rashtrapati Bhavan, or the President’s House, recently announced a series of appointments that will see new governors installed in several states and union territories. Lakshman Prasad Acharya has been appointed as the Governor of Assam, with the additional responsibility of Manipur. Acharya will be taking over from Gulab Chand Kataria, who has been designated as the Governor of Punjab, succeeding Banwarilal Purohit.

The changes were confirmed through an official communiqué released on Saturday night, which also noted that President Droupadi Murmu has accepted Purohit’s resignation as both the Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of Chandigarh. In turn, Kataria has also been appointed as the administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

Governor of Sikkim

Acharya’s previous position as the Governor of Sikkim will be filled by veteran BJP leader Om Prakash Mathur. Meanwhile, Jharkhand Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, who also held additional charge of Telangana, has been reassigned as the Governor of Maharashtra, taking over from Ramesh Bais.

Governor of Jharkhand

The role of Jharkhand Governor will now be assumed by former Union Labour and Employment Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar. In Telangana, former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, Jishnu Dev Varma, has been named the new governor.

Governor of Pondicherry

In another notable appointment, former IAS officer K. Kailashnathan, a long-time aide to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will serve as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Kailashnathan recently stepped down as Chief Principal Secretary to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, a position he had held for over a decade following his retirement.

Governor of Rajasthan

The Rashtrapati Bhavan’s communiqué also revealed that Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, a senior BJP leader from Maharashtra, will become the Governor of Rajasthan, replacing Kalraj Mishra. Additionally, Ramen Deka, a former Lok Sabha member from Assam, has been appointed as the Governor of Chhattisgarh, and C.H. Vijayashankar, the former Lok Sabha member from Mysore in Karnataka, will serve as the Governor of Meghalaya.

These administrative appointments will be effective from the dates the appointees assume their respective offices, as stated in the official announcement.
