The Manipur Government has responded to recent concerns raised by various communities regarding the alleged infiltration of 900 trained Kuki militants from Myanmar. According to reports, these militants were purportedly planning attacks on Meitei communities on September 28, sparking widespread alarm.
In a press release signed by Kuldeep Singh, Advisor (Security), and Rajiv Singh, Director General of Police, Manipur, the state government clarified that while the information about the infiltration had been received and investigated from multiple sources, the verification process did not reveal any concrete evidence to substantiate these claims.
“There is no basis currently to believe in any such input,” the statement read, stressing that security forces are on high alert to safeguard the lives and properties of all citizens. The government assured all communities of their safety and urged the public not to believe in rumors or unverified information. The authorities underscored that robust security measures are in place, with continuous efforts to maintain peace and security in the region. The government appealed for calm and cautioned against spreading misinformation that could escalate tensions.
Meanwhile, Kuki-Zo Tribal Body Announces Mass Rally and Two-Day Shutdown Over Alleged False Intelligence Reports
In a related development, the Kuki-Zo community in Kangpokpi district has announced a massive rally on Thursday, September 26, followed by a two-day total shutdown across Sadar Hills on September 27 and 28. This protest is in response to what the tribal community claims are false intelligence reports suggesting the infiltration of 900 Kuki militants from Myanmar into Manipur.
The decision to hold the rally and shutdown was made during a joint meeting of all civil society organizations, convened at the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) office in Kangpokpi Town. The meeting aimed to address growing concerns over the intelligence reports, which the community believes are part of a campaign to tarnish their image and heighten tensions in the state.
Lamminlun Singsit, General Secretary of CoTU, stated, “The rally and subsequent shutdown are a direct response to these baseless allegations made by the state government and supported by the majority community. We stand united in protesting these false claims.” The rally, organized under the aegis of CoTU, will take place at the Kangpokpi District Headquarters, aiming to protest the alleged misinformation campaign against the Kuki-Zo people.

The complete shutdown across Sadar Hills seeks to draw the attention of the central government, with Singsit urging for intervention and justice concerning the false intelligence reports. He reiterated the community’s demand for a Union Territory with Legislature under Article 239(A) of the Indian Constitution, emphasizing that this would address their grievances and ongoing issues.
The protest is expected to see widespread participation, signaling the Kuki-Zo community’s solidarity against what they perceive as continued persecution and misinformation campaigns against them.
