Parliament’s winter session will begin today. The session will last 17 working days in total.
The agenda for the winter session of Parliament of the BJP-led Central government contains 16 new laws. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to meet with members of the media ahead of the start of the Winter Session of Parliament.
The Winter Session of Parliament begins today and will last through December 29. The session had also been pushed back by a month due to the Gujarat election timetable.
The Lok Sabha will pay respect to members who died during the inter-session recess.
Mulayam Singh Yadav, the patriarch of the Samajwadi Party who died in October after a protracted illness, will be among those remembered.
This will be the first session in which Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar will preside over proceedings in the Rajya Sabha as the Upper House’s ex-officio chairman.
The Trade Marks (Amendment) Bill, 2022, the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) (Amendment) Bill, 2022, and the Repealing and Amending Bill, 2022 are among the legislation scheduled for introduction during the Winter Session of Parliament.
Know some of these new bills on government agenda:
1. Trade Marks (Amendment) Bill aims to include elements of the Madrid Registration System. The Madrid system of International Registration for Marks offers businesses a one-stop shop for registering and protecting their trade marks in several countries.
2. Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) (Amendment Bill, 2022), intends to alter the parent Act to simplify various procedures in order to make them more accessible to the greatest number of stakeholders.
3. North East Water Management Authority Bill, 2022, seeks to establish a new entity, the North East Water Management Authority (NEWMA), by dissolving the existing Statutory Body, the Brahmaputra Board, which was established under the provisions of the Brahmaputra Board Act, 1980, and eventually repealing the Act of 1980.
3. Repealing and Amending Bill, 2022 will aim to abolish duplicate and obsolete legislation.
4. Multi-State Cooperative Societies (Amendment Bill, 2022), and the National Dental Commission Bill, 2022 are two of the other legislation.
5. Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill, 2019, was tabled in Lok Sabha on December 9, 2019, and has been referred to the Standing Committee on External Affairs. This year’s report was presented on February 11th. The Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill aims to enact domestic anti-maritime piracy legislation in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in order to provide the necessary legal framework within the country for the prosecution of individuals for piracy-related crimes committed on high seas beyond India’s territorial jurisdiction.
Earlier on Tuesday, an all-party meeting was conducted on the Parliament grounds, presided over by Defence Minister and Deputy Leader of the Lok Sabha Rajnath Singh.
