Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the Niti Aayog‘s ninth Governing Council meeting on Saturday to discuss various development issues and policy matters.
Niti Aayog, the central government’s top public policy think tank, includes the PM as Chairman, Chief Ministers of all states, Lieutenant Governors (LGs) of several Union Territories, and several union ministers as members.
Sources say that Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states have been instructed to attend the meeting and present their key achievements to PM Modi. “They have been asked to highlight the successes and shortcomings of their departments and schemes,” sources told India Today TV.
However, several Opposition Chief Ministers, including Tamil Nadu’s MK Stalin, Kerala’s Pinarayi Vijayan, Punjab’s Bhagwant Mann, and Congress CMs Siddaramaiah (Karnataka), Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu (Himachal Pradesh), and Revanth Reddy (Telangana), have announced they will boycott the meeting.
Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy will also not attend, feeling it unnecessary after the center approved the budget proposals for Puducherry.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, part of the Opposition INDIA bloc, will participate in the meeting, while there is uncertainty about Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s attendance.
