G20 Summit: Police Advise Public to Avoid Walking, Cycling near India Gate & Kartavya Path

As the G20 Summit in the national capital approaches, Delhi Traffic Police have issued a public appeal, urging people to refrain from walking or cycling near the India Gate and Kartavya Path areas. In a press briefing, Delhi Special Commissioner of Police Traffic, SS Yadav, stated, “We have appealed to the citizens to avoid going out for walking, picnic, or cycling in the India Gate or Kartavya Path area.”

With the G20 Summit scheduled to be hosted in New Delhi on September 9-10, Delhi Traffic Police provided information to commuters regarding the availability of bus and metro services during the summit, which will have partial restrictions. Yadav clarified that only New Delhi and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) areas have been included in the controlled zone, and bus and metro services will still operate. However, services at Pragati Maidan and Supreme Court metro stations will be affected. Additionally, online delivery of essential services will be permitted, but specific food delivery services such as Swiggy and Domino’s will not be allowed in the New Delhi area.

The senior official also encouraged the general public to download the indigenous MapmyIndia app, which provides navigation assistance and alternative routes to reach their destinations efficiently. Yadav stressed the importance of using this native navigation application for ease of travel.

India assumed the G20 Presidency on December 1, 2022, under the theme “One Earth, One Family, One Future.” World leaders are set to gather in New Delhi to participate in the G20 Summit, and India has been actively preparing for this prestigious event since taking on the G20 presidency, with approximately 200 meetings related to G20 organized across 60 cities in the country.

The summit will take place at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
