President Murmu lays foundation stone for multiple projects in Gujarat

President Droupadi Murmu laid foundation stone for multiple prosperous projects of the Government of Gujarat. The projects are related to health, irrigation, and water supply along with the projects of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways related to upgradation of Deendayal Port in Kandla, Gandhinagar said President’s Secretariat on Monday.

President Murmu said, “The people of Gujarat have a culture of enterprise and innovation. The entrepreneurs of Gujarat have given a special identity to Gujarat and India. Gujarat is one of the leading states in the country in terms of development.”

“Gujarat has presented examples of natural farming and environmental protection along with industrial progress. She noted that while about 5 per cent of the country’s population resides in Gujarat, it contributes about 20 per cent of the total national agricultural production. She said that successful experiments of agricultural development in Gujarat are being adopted all over the country.” The President added.

Water scarcity has been a great problem for the people living in Gujarat, especially in the northern parts of Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch, but the landscape has changed now, said the President.

A huge network of canals is used to supply irrigation water to the people as part of the “Sardar Sarovar Project.” Thousands of lives have been improved by the project. She was pleased to learn that Gujarat has been placed top in the nation for the previous three years in terms of water management, per the “Composite Water Management Index” of NITI Aayog.

The President expressed confidence that the projects that were inaugurated today will give farmers and business owners additional employment prospects.

The Super Speciality Hospital and Medical College, whose foundation stones were laid today, would serve the needs of the tribal community in the Narmada area, she added, and they are determined to do so. President Murmu paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and spun the charkha at Sabarmati Ashram earlier after arriving in Ahmedabad.
