Puja Khedkar Challenges UPSC Decision In Delhi HC Over Candidature Cancellation

Former IAS probationary officer Puja Khedkar filed a petition with the Delhi High Court on Monday, challenging the UPSC's cancellation of her candidacy.

On Monday, former probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar filed a petition with the Delhi High Court challenging the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) decision to cancel her candidature. The petition was mentioned before a bench led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and is scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday.

On July 31, UPSC announced the cancellation of Puja Khedkar’s provisional IAS candidature due to allegations of cheating and forgery. The commission accused Khedkar of violating the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2022 rules, leading to her permanent debarment from all future UPSC exams and selections.

According to UPSC, Khedkar was given until 3:30 PM on July 30, 2024, to respond to a show cause notice, which was her final opportunity to contest the allegations. She failed to submit her response within the allotted time, prompting UPSC to take decisive action against her.

Additionally, the Delhi Patiala House Court recently dismissed Khedkar’s anticipatory bail plea, citing the seriousness of the allegations and the need for custodial interrogation to uncover a potential conspiracy. The court noted that Khedkar faces charges under Sections 420, 468, 471, and 120B of the IPC, as well as violations under the IT Act and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

The court has also directed the investigating agency to broaden its investigation, including examining candidates who may have unlawfully benefited from additional attempts, OBC status, or disability benefits.
