Rajasthan: House Collapse In Karauli District Claims Two Lives, Injures Three After Heavy Rains

Two people, including a child, lost their lives, and three others were injured when a house collapsed in the Nadi Darwaza area of Karauli district following heavy rains on Sunday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Zakir Khan, 35, and Jiya Khan, 12.

Ramkesh, the Principal Medical Officer (PMO) of the Government Hospital in Karauli, provided details on the incident. “Around 7:15 am, we received information that a house had collapsed, with several people feared dead in the debris,” he said. “The bodies of Jiya Khan and her father Zakir Khan were initially brought to the hospital. Additionally, three people arrived with minor injuries. Two were given first aid, and the third was treated in the OPD. More people are feared trapped in the collapse.”

Police reported that at least five people were buried in the debris when the house collapsed. Following a rescue operation, two were confirmed dead, and three others were injured.

“Police officers reached the site immediately after receiving information, and the injured were admitted to Karauli Hospital. The incident occurred in the Nadi Darwaza area around 6:30 in the morning,” a police official stated.

Officials also noted that the house had become dilapidated due to continuous rainfall. Further details are awaited.

In recent days, parts of Rajasthan, including Gangapur City, have experienced intense rainfall, leading to severe waterlogging. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast additional downpours in certain areas for the coming week.

The IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Udaipur, and Bharatpur divisions on Sunday. The heavy rain is expected to continue in these areas for the next five to seven days. Moderate to heavy rain is also forecast for some parts of western Rajasthan’s Bikaner and Jodhpur divisions over the next five to six days, with a chance of heavy rain in the Shekhawati region.
