As of today, the sixth day of the ongoing operation in Kerala, the death toll has risen to 355, with 158 people reported injured and 240 still missing.

Expanded Rescue Efforts

The extensive rescue operations have been extended to all affected areas. A total of 52 sniffer dogs are deployed alongside 1,520 personnel from the Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to assist in the ongoing efforts.

Impact of Landslides

Three landslides struck Wayanad on Tuesday following heavy rainfall, with the villages of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha being the most severely affected.

Military Involvement

Soldiers from the 122 Infantry Battalion of the Territorial Army, based at West Hill Barracks, Calicut, have initiated search and rescue operations, focusing on the severely landslide-affected areas from Vellarimala towards Attamala.

Rescue and Evacuation Operations

The Indian Army has significantly ramped up its rescue operations, successfully evacuating several people to safety. Troops from the Army’s Madras Sappers have constructed a 100-foot improvised bridge overnight, which has now been opened to the public, enhancing rescue operations and facilitating the evacuation of stranded individuals.
