Vietnam PM Pham Minh Chinh Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi During State Visit

On Wednesday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had a meeting with PM Pham Minh Chinh, who had arrived in India on Tuesday. During their discussion, the Vietnamese Prime Minister expressed his gratitude, thanking India for the warm reception and the efficient arrangements made for his visit on short notice.

Vietnam PM Pham Minh Chinh Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi During State Visit

Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, visited Rajghat on Thursday to pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi during his state visit to India, which runs from July 30 to August 1. At the memorial where Gandhi was laid to rest, the Vietnamese Prime Minister laid wreaths as the prayer “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram,” cherished by Gandhi, was played.

Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, shared on X (formerly Twitter), “Remembering Bapu and his timeless ideals! PM Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.”

Earlier in the day, Pham Minh Chinh received a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted his Vietnamese counterpart with a warm hug and a Guard of Honour by the combined defence services was inspected. The occasion was also attended by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel, and Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal.

During their discussion, the Vietnamese Prime Minister expressed his gratitude, thanking India for the warm reception and the efficient arrangements made for his visit on short notice. “I want to thank you for your time, seeing me this afternoon. I want to thank you for your efforts in arranging my visit to India with such short notice and a very tight schedule. I would like to thank the two foreign ministries for making the best preparations for this visit,” Pham Minh Chinh said.
