Rescue operations by the Indian Air Force (IAF), Army, and state authorities are ongoing in the landslide-affected Wayanad region of Kerala. On Wednesday, the ninth consecutive day of rescue and relief efforts continues in the areas hit by the massive landslides.
“Collaborative rescue operations conducted by the IAF, Indian Army (IA), and state authorities are underway in Wayanad. A specialized team of soldiers, along with the Army, was airlifted by the IAF from Kalpetta to the Chaliyar River,” PRO Defence Kochi posted on X.
The landslides, which occurred on July 30, have resulted in over 300 fatalities and extensive property damage in Wayanad’s Chooralmala and Mundakkai regions.

Earlier today, a specialized team comprising six trained Army personnel, four Special Operation Groups (SOG) of Kerala Police, two Forest Officers, and a dog squad departed for the Sunrise Valley near Soojippara Waterfalls in Wayanad to conduct a search operation.
“In continuation of yesterday’s operations, we are deploying a 13-member team today, including a cadaver dog and its handler. We aim to cover more downstream areas, having covered 4 kilometers yesterday. Our goal is to maximize our coverage,” Taposh Basumatary, Superintendent of Police, SOG, told ANI.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that the government is committed to world-class rehabilitation for the landslide-hit areas. “We aim to create a resettlement model that will serve as an example for the nation and the world,” Vijayan said at a press conference.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that government employees and teachers are contributing at least 5% of their salaries to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF). “Since July 30, we have received Rs 53.98 crores in the disaster relief fund,” Vijayan added.
