Canada PM’s Swearing-In Ceremony Live: Mike Carney Sworn In As Canada’s New Prime Minister

As Justin Trudeau formally resigns after over ten years in office, Mark Carney will take over as Canada’s next prime minister.

After taking the oath of office in Ottawa, Carney, the newly appointed leader of the ruling Liberal Party, will present his cabinet.

In the midst of rising tensions over US President Donald Trump’s tariffs and threats against Canada, Carney, an economist and former central banker, is taking over as prime minister.

Before parliament reconvenes later this month, he is anticipated to call a federal election, which would put Canadians to the polls as early as late April. The media are invited to Rideau Hall to cover the event. The swearing-in event will be presided over by Canada’s Governor General, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon.
