Ambedkar Jayanti 2024: Essential Details You Should Know

Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb, was born on April 14, 1891, in Mhow, which is now in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Every year on this date, his birth anniversary is commemorated as Ambedkar Jayanti. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar holds a significant place in Indian history as the architect of the Indian Constitution. He was not only a social reformer but also an economist and jurist whose ideas have left a lasting impact on generations.

The Dalit movement in India found a powerful voice in Dr. Ambedkar, who spent his life advocating for equality, social justice, and progressive ideals. Despite coming from a poor Dalit family, he experienced firsthand the discrimination and atrocities faced by his community.

Dr. Ambedkar’s educational journey was remarkable. He obtained degrees in political science and economics and began his career with the Baroda State Government. At the young age of 22, he received a scholarship to pursue higher studies at Columbia University, becoming the first Indian to pursue a doctorate in Economics abroad.

Throughout his life, Babasaheb fought for the rights of Dalits and marginalized communities. One of his pivotal contributions was the signing of the Poona Pact in 1932, which allowed Dalits to have representation in legislatures.

On the occasion of his birth anniversary, here are some inspirational quotes by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar that continue to resonate with people:

1. “Political tyranny is nothing compared to social tyranny, and a reformer who defies society is a more courageous man than a politician who defies government.”

2. “I measure the progress of a community by the degree of progress which women have achieved.”

3. “I like the religion that teaches liberty, equality, and fraternity.”

4. “If you believe in living a respectable life, you believe in self-help, which is the best help.”

5. “Cultivation of mind should be the ultimate aim of human existence.”

6. “Men are mortal. So are ideas. An idea needs propagation as much as a plant needs watering; otherwise, both will wither and die.”

7. “We must stand on our own feet and fight as best as we can for our rights. So carry on your agitation and organize your forces. Power and prestige will come to you through struggle.”

8. “So long as you do not achieve social liberty, whatever freedom is provided by the law is of no avail to you.”

These quotes reflect Dr. Ambedkar’s unwavering commitment to social justice, equality, and the empowerment of marginalized communities. As India celebrates his birth anniversary, his teachings and legacy continue to inspire people across the country.
