This festival is very important because, according to Hinduism, it symbolizes “overcoming darkness and the unknown” in life and in the world. Practices include reciting prayers, fasting, meditating on moral principles such as justice and charity, and remembering the virtues of Shiva.

Desserts: White sweets made from milk are offered during Mahashivratri worship. This is a suitable gift to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. Sugar and honey are also often offered.

Makhana Kheer: Prepare Makhana kheer with milk and offer it to Lord Shiva. Rice kheer is also a valuable gift.

Dhatura: Shiva Purana recommends offering Dhatura fruit during Shiva worship as it is believed to eliminate sadness and help during pregnancy.
