Google Doodle Celebrates Paris Olympics 2024 as City of Light Prepares for Grand Opening

Google has once again brought a splash of creativity to the digital world with its animated Doodle celebrating the much-anticipated start of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. On Friday, July 26, Google’s homepage transformed into a vibrant canvas showcasing a dynamic animation that reflects the excitement and unity of the Olympic Games.

This year’s Olympics are set to be truly historic, with the opening ceremony taking place not in a conventional stadium but along the iconic Seine River. Paris, renowned for its blend of innovation and tradition, will illuminate the river with a grand procession of athletes from over 200 countries, culminating in the lighting of the Olympic cauldron. The closing ceremony will follow on August 11, featuring a parade of flags and athletes.

The Google Doodle for today features a colorful array of animals engaged in various summer sports, capturing the lively spirit of the Games. This playful depiction, which adorns Google’s homepage, serves as a tribute to the Olympic ideals of unity and celebration. While the competitive events have already begun, the grand opening ceremony marks a highlight with its unique setting and spectacular presentations. Paris is set to host athletes competing in 329 events across 32 sports disciplines, including the debut of four new sports: breaking, skateboarding, surfing, and sports climbing, alongside the traditional 28 Olympic sports.

India’s delegation to the Paris Olympics 2024 is making a strong statement with 117 athletes — 70 men and 47 women — participating across 16 sports disciplines. The Indian team will compete in 69 events and aims to secure up to 95 medals. The squad includes prominent Olympic medalists such as Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu, P. V. Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain, and the men’s hockey team.

Following the opening ceremony, the Indian men’s hockey team will kick off their campaign against New Zealand on Saturday, July 27. This date also marks the start of competitions in badminton, boxing, shooting, and table tennis.
