Meta Connect 2024: What Is The Meaning Behind Mark Zuckerberg’s Tee Shirt With Latin Phrase AUT ZUCK AUT NIHIL?

At the Meta Connect developers’ event, CEO Mark Zuckerberg sported a custom black t-shirt with the phrase “AUT ZUCK AUT NIHIL,” which is Latin for “All Zuck, or all nothing.” This phrase is a twist on the well-known saying “Aut Caesar, aut nihil.”

This isn’t the first time Zuckerberg has worn a shirt with a bold message. For his 40th birthday earlier this year, he donned a shirt that read “Carthago delenda est,” meaning “Carthage must be destroyed,” a reference rooted in Roman history.

Over the past year, Zuckerberg has been experimenting with more striking fashion choices, a shift from his usual wardrobe of hoodies and plain grey t-shirts.

As a known fan of Roman history, Zuckerberg has previously spoken about his fascination with the subject. He also enjoyed Latin in school, likening it to coding, and his sister, Donna, holds a PhD in classics from Princeton and has written extensively on the appropriation of classical history by certain online communities.

Internet Reacts

One user asked, “uh why is mark zuckerberg wearing a shirt that says “aut zuck aut nihil”? (i assume it’s a joke referring to the phrase “aut caesar aut nihil”, essentially, “either caesar or nothing”.) 😬”

Another stated, “omg, Zuckerberg is wearing a shirt that seems to read “Aut Zuck / Aut nihil”, which translates to “Either Zuck or nothing.” An individual added, “Zuck achieved infinite aura by pulling off this shirt.”

The next one tweeted, “In case you were wondering, Zuck’s shirt says “either Zuck or nothing” in Latin.”
