In a surprising turn of events, beachgoers at Misquamicut State Beach in Westerly, Rhode Island, saw an extraordinary sight on Saturday: a massive swarm of dragonflies filled the sky. Many visitors were shocked and sought cover, likening the scene to a biblical plague.
A video captured the moment as countless dragonflies swarmed above the beach and shoreline. The sudden appearance of these insects triggered various reactions from the crowd.
Some people screamed and ran, while others used beach items like body boards to protect themselves from the dragonflies. Despite the chaos, some remained calm, sitting on their towels and waiting for the swarm to pass.
“I was enjoying a nice day at Misquamicut State Beach until we experienced a dragonfly apocalypse,” Martin, a Milford resident, told WCVB.
