After the scroaching heat the people have already faced, monsoon season is just a sigh of relief. But it also carries health challenges. While the cool breeze and the fresh smell of rain are pleasant, the increased humidity during this time creates a perfect environment for bacteria and viruses to thrive.
This can lead to common issues like stomach infections, food poisoning, diarrhea, and indigestion. The high humidity also affects our digestion, which is why many people avoid eating non-vegetarian foods and eggs during this season.
It’s recommended to steer clear of raw eggs, seafood, chicken, and mutton. The monsoon is known to be the breeding season for prawns and fish, increasing the risk of infection from consuming seafood. If you do eat fish, make sure it’s fresh and avoid raw fish or sushi.
According to Hindu tradition, killing animals during their breeding season is considered a sin. Since the monsoon is a breeding time for many animals, this belief also supports avoiding non-veg and eggs during this period.
In addition, it’s wise to avoid fruit juices from roadside vendors, as the fruits may not be fresh and could cause illnesses due to prolonged exposure to the humid air. For safer options, stick to homemade fruit juices to prevent diseases like diarrhea and typhoid.
