Woman Gets Caught in Shop Shutters and Lifted Into the Air

A woman’s comical mishap involving shop shutters has become the subject of laughter after being captured on CCTV. The incident unfolded at a Best One off-licence in Pontypridd, South Wales, where Anne Hughes, a 71-year-old cleaner, found herself stuck in the shutters and lifted several feet into the air. The clumsy episode occurred while Ms. Hughes stood with a trolley, waiting for the shutters to open shortly before 8 am on Monday.

As Ms. Hughes realized her coat was caught in the shutters, the situation quickly escalated, lifting her off the ground and suspending her upside down. Despite her attempts to hold onto her shopping cart and a nearby bin, she remained suspended until store manager Amed Akram, 44, intervened. Mr. Akram promptly lowered the shutter and assisted Ms. Hughes to safety.

Reflecting on the incident, Ms. Hughes shared her initial panic as she realized she was caught in the shutters. She expressed gratitude towards Mr. Akram for his swift response and assistance, ensuring she suffered no injuries.

Ms. Hughes, who formally retired seven years ago but continued working at the store, recounted the moment when she screamed for Mr. Akram’s help as she realized she was trapped. Despite the ordeal, she maintained a light-hearted perspective, joking about the incident and her newfound “fame” among her social circles.
