Aman Sehrawat Wins India’s Sixth Bronze Medal at Paris Olympics

Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat has made a memorable debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics, clinching the bronze medal in the 57kg freestyle wrestling category. The 21-year-old rising star from India defeated Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz with a commanding 13-5 victory, adding another medal to India’s tally at this prestigious event.

This accomplishment marks a significant milestone in Sehrawat’s career, showcasing his potential on the global stage. Despite falling short in the semifinals against Japan’s Rei Higuchi, where he was defeated in a swift and decisive 10-0 bout, Sehrawat’s resilience and determination led him to bounce back and secure a podium finish. This victory not only highlights Sehrawat’s skills but also extends India’s impressive streak of winning wrestling medals in every Olympic Games since 2008.

Sehrawat’s Journey to Bronze

Aman Sehrawat’s path to the bronze medal was marked by impressive performances. He initially stormed into the semifinals with a dominant 12-0 win by technical superiority over Albania’s Zelimkhan Abakanov. However, the semifinal match against Japan’s Rei Higuchi proved to be a tough challenge. Higuchi, who would eventually advance to the gold medal match, outclassed Sehrawat, ending the bout with a 10-0 win by technical superiority.

Undeterred by the setback, Sehrawat refocused his efforts and faced Darian Cruz of Puerto Rico in the bronze medal match. Displaying superior technique and determination, Sehrawat secured a 13-5 victory, earning him his first Olympic medal.
