India’s Avinash Sable qualifies for the men’s 3000m steeplechase final of Paris Olympics finishing fifth in his heat.
Avinash finished 5th with a timing of 8:15.43.
He will compete in the final on the night of 7th August (8th August) at 1:13 am IST.
Sable dropped to third place as Kibiwot and Ethiopian Samuel Fireru took the lead. Although the Indian runner fell back slightly, he remained in the leading group of four at the 2000m mark. Besides Sable, Kibiwot, and Fireru, Japan’s Ryuji Miura was also in contention for the top five spots, which would secure qualification for the event’s final.
In the final few hundred meters, Sable was overtaken by four athletes but managed to finish comfortably in 5th place as the top athletes created a significant gap from the rest of the field. Sable could have achieved a better time if he hadn’t looked back multiple times to check for competitors behind him.
